“I believe my dad deserves this award because he has been serving the public for 25 years. He started his career as a police officer for Los Angeles Police Department for 2 years, then has dedicated the rest of his life to serving the citizens of Newport Beach. He is a member of the Community Emergency Response Team and volunteers his time to countless service events. He is currently helping the community of Newport Beach fight the COVID-19 crisis. Even with all my dad does for others, he still makes time to be the best father to me and my sister, and the best husband to my mom (married for 31 years!) My dad is the most selfless man I have ever known. He has lived and breathed Huntington Beach for 51 years. He surfs with his buddies on the weekends and loves to drive his truck down PCH. He truly gives his life for others, which is why I believe he is truly the perfect candidate for this award.” – Ava K.

“He puts his life on the line everyday, caring for a stranger’ life before his own. Police officers all have a thankless job. They should all be rewarded.” – Michele J

Varpas D.
“Varpas works as part of the Psychology team at CHOC, supporting teenagers who are struggling with mental health and have suicidal ideations. He helps to teach these teens coping mechanisms for stress in their lives and he helps them learn to build positive relationships. The work is emotionally taxing, and often discouraging. But he approaches it with so much optimism and tireless energy.” – Amy C.
Nicole M.
“Nicole is always pleasant and shows great teamwork and leadership in our busy PICU. She is caring and compassionate and hard working. She balances her home life, commute and work life as if it’s easy. It isn’t, especially now. But her positive attitude isn’t diminished. She deserves to have a treat and win some free car washes!” Janet W.
Dimitri C.
“I’m nominating my son because he has continually sacrificed his personal life, including his safety and health during his entire career. His compassion for people began when he was very little and he knew from the age of three that he wanted to be a fire fighter. His service to the public goes beyond the work hours as you’ll often see him buying a stranger lunch and sitting down to talk with them on his days off. He never wants any recognition for what he does because he believes it’s just his duty, So I would love to see him be recognized and rewarded for his tireless commitment and service to his community.” – Michelle C.
Clarissa L.
“Every day she works Clarissa puts her life on the line for everyone. Even when she’s not working. She loves what she does she’s amazing at it. Not too many female firefighters are engineers and captain and here you go!!!!!❤️” – Cindy A.
Richard R.
“Richard is the most dedicated nurse at Hoag. The patients love him. He makes going through Cancer a little easier because of his kind bedside manner. He also has a kind and caring manner with the family members of these patients that may be living their last days. I think being an oncology nurse is the most difficult of all nursing professions.” – Suzi B.
Katy B.
“Katy is an RN at Hoag Hospital in the Emergency Dept. She goes to work every day with a smile and a great attitude, hoping to make a difference in people’s lives. She is literally putting her life on the line to care for our community. She has taken care of multiple patients diagnosed with COVID and has also had multiple exposures to patients that were later diagnosed with COVID. Besides COVID patients she is caring for patients coming in with strokes , heart attacks and other critical illnesses. I am her mom and I also work at Hoag. I have had many of her ER colleagues come to me and tell me what a great RN she is, especially for being so young. I am very proud of her work ethic and the difference she is making every day. “ – Jeanne B.
Sean C.
“Sean just promoted to Sergeant after over 20 years pushing a radio car. Long overdue but worth all the 16 hour double shifts and sacrifice that comes with being a law enforcement deputy. Sean would lay his life on the line for a stranger, as evidenced by his TWO medals of valor. Being his wife, I worry about him constantly and just want 2020 to be a year of many wonderful surprises for him. ❤️😎👏🏻” – Brenda C.
